Why it matters
A single large EDF award for PRS/NAVWAR integration will likely lock in one consortium for the EU's military PNT resilience stack for years. Relevant to GNSS receiver and anti-jam antenna makers, munitions guidance-kit suppliers and C2 software firms in EDF-eligible states.
Do this: Approach likely consortium leads (large PNT/missile integrators) now for a work-package slot on PRS receiver or NAVWAR C2 software, and prepare the PRS declaration and ownership-control documents before the 29 September 2026 deadline.

Scope: Taking into consideration the ongoing activities in this area funded by the EU, EU Member States and EDF associated countries, the general objective of this topic is to support the developments necessary for the integration and qualification of Public Regulated Service (PRS) receivers into existing military operational platforms as well as the enhancement of navigation warfare (NAVWAR) capabilities. In particular, this topic will focus on the development of Galileo PRS receiver technology and the NAVWAR information management system, taking into account the need to also support guided munitions and missiles in operational environments. Beyond defence technologies, this topic also contributes to the STEP objectives as defined in the STEP Regulation in the target investment area of deep and digital technologies. Targeted types of activities: Design, system prototyping, testing and qualification, not excluding upstream and downstream activities eligible for development actions. Indicative budget: EUR 50 000 000 for this topic under the EDF-2026-DA call. Indicative number of proposals to be funded: One proposal is to be funded for this topic. UKDI is the main low-barrier UK entry point for single-company defence innovation funding, and the Defence-side route is being rebuilt after the Defence Investment Plan — meaning the Security Open Call is currently the only broad open door. Relevant to autonomy, space, sensing and security-tech scale-ups and SMEs able to bid alone without a consortium. Do: Submit to the Security Open Call 2026 Cycle 1 by 27 August 2026 or Innovation Support to Operations Cycle 8 by 22 September 2026 via the UKDI portal, and email accelerator@dstl.gov.uk for scope clarification; contact the UKDI Help Centre about Defence Innovation Loans while cycles are paused.

IRIS² is now committed to deployment with a materially larger, defence-oriented segment, so SpaceRISE members (and their tier-1s) will open subcontract packages for satellite payloads, crypto/secure ground segment, terminals and launch services. Relevant to space and secure-comms suppliers — payload, optical/RF terminal, encryption and ground-station firms in EU/EEA — rather than to anyone bidding the prime role. Do: Approach SpaceRISE consortium members' procurement/supply-chain leads now with a qualified capability dossier for satellite subsystems, secure ground segment or user terminals ahead of the 2029 first-launch schedule.
