Why it matters
A single-award EUR 10m research topic in a narrow niche — hydroacoustics/CFD modelling and sonar integration — so the winning consortium will likely be built around a handful of naval research institutes and submarine designers. Relevant to hydrodynamics/CFD software houses, acoustic test facilities and sonar subsystem SMEs with EU-based ownership.
Do this: If you do CFD/hydroacoustic modelling or sonar integration, contact naval research institutes and submarine primes now to secure a work package before the 29 September 2026 EDF deadline rather than leading a bid.

Summary
EDF research-action topic EDF-2026-RA-UWW-FUWN funds development and validation of tools modelling underwater flow-generated noise, to support sonar placement/design and simulation of radiated noise from underwater platforms, including generation of high-quality verification data. Indicative budget EUR 10 million, with one proposal expected to be funded. Deadline 29 September 2026 via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.
Eligibility
EDF eligibility: consortia of entities established in EU/Norway, subject to ownership/control rules; details in call document sections 6-7.
Source text (raw, may be non-English)
Scope: This topic aims to improve the design of underwater platforms and the proper integration of sonars, including the verification of existing tools and the development of better tools for modelling underwater flow-generated noise that can support the placement of sonars and the simulation of radiated noise from underwater platforms. The models to be developed for both sonar design and radiated noise will include the generation of high-quality verification data and would support the design of underwater platforms and the placement and design of sonars. Targeted types of activities: Generating knowledge, integrating knowledge and studies, not excluding downstream activities eligible for research actions. Indicative budget: EUR 10 000 000 for this topic under the EDF-2026-RA call. Indicative number of proposals to be funded: One proposal is to be funded for this topic. However, depending on the quality of the proposals submitted and the budget available, more than one proposal may ultimately be funded for this topic. Conditions: Conditions 1. Admissibility conditions: Proposal page limit and layout described in section 5 of the call document .
